History & Mission
History
Founded in 2004, the Public Education Foundation of Charlottesville-Albemarle (formerly the Public Education Fund) is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in our public schools.
We focus on programs that provide lasting impact and go beyond the scope of current public resources.
PEF has supported or initiated projects such as “Odyssey: 2025 for Math and Science,” after school intervention programs for at-risk elementary school students, a high school guidance and college advisory program, and a senior volunteer program.
Our Mission
Through our passion for public education, we support 17,000 students in Albemarle County and Charlottesville to grow and thrive in all academic disciplines by providing resources and opportunities with the help of the community and local businesses.
We are a high-impact foundation, committed to building programs that will transform education in our community and provide a model for school systems across the nation.
Our Aspiration
Every Child … Every Teacher … Every Administrator
Through community involvement and support, we strive to make sure that every child, in our two public school districts, will have access to educational experiences that prepare them for success; every teacher will have the resources to educate in the most effective manner; and every administrator will be able to provide exemplary support and leadership.
